Shakespeare and Company; Paris, France

Shakespeare and Company bookstore, on the Left Bank in Paris, is the kind of bookstore that just makes you want to buy more books, even if you never plan on reading them. It's wonderful inside. The major downside is that English books are crazy-expensive in Paris, so it's better to just walk around and devour the trademark smell of books. It's tight inside, but, if you're lucky, someone upstairs will be playing the piano, and you can sit down for a few minutes and relax.

I've never seen the film, but apparently Shakespeare and Company was featured in the Woody Allen film, Midnight in Paris. The original location, which closed during the Nazi occupation of Paris and never reopened, was a regular haunt for James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway.
