Overall thoughts on Chengdu, China

It took me a while to warm up to Chengdu, largely because I’m a traveler who typically prefers to travel without a guidebook; but, a guidebook, or at least some local guidance, is recommended for Chengdu. It is too spread out to play by ear, but with a bit of direction there is plenty to enjoy, especially inside one of the city’s legendary teahouses, where it is easy to enjoy the hours pass while spending only a few RMB. One of my more enjoyable, but easy to forget, memories of Chengdu is the sound of its cicadas. Cicadas, cicadas everywhere.
