Chinese girls learning to say, "Good evening"

For most of the 12-hour trip from Jiuzhaigou to Chengdu, these two little girls spied me curiously, laughing and giggling. By the time we had reached Chengdu, and were sitting in local traffic on the streets of the Sichuan capital, we were helping each other with language. The girls, five and seven, didn't really speak English, and of course I don't really speak Chinese, but I taught them to say "good evening" and "umbrella," and they taught me, "Xià yǔ," the Chinese verb for rain.
