Madrid, Spain

I've arrived in Madrid, and it's not quite 8:00 a.m. on a Monday. It's a holiday here today, St. Joseph's Day, although I haven't yet figured out what exactly that means, except that most places will be closed. My first impression of Madrid is that it's quite large, with wide boulevards and beautiful trees. Madrid, la capital de EspaƱa, is probably not what you'd call a walkable city.

In the taxi en route to my hotel, which is beautiful and full of personality, I spotted the Prado Museum, which is high on my short list of things I'd like to see in Madrid. At the hotel, I found a Spanish newspaper, and I am surprised by how much Spanish I remember.

My first trip to Spain.
