Louis Lumière: "The Card Game" (1896)

I'm a bit of a photography nerd, and an art nerd, so I appreciated seeing this 1896 film, by Louis Lumière, at the Museo Reina Sofia, in Madrid. The Lumière brothers, Louis and Auguste, were two of the earliest filmmakers in history; coincidentally, their last name translates as "light."

Watching these guys in the film play cards, via so few frames per second, felt choppy and disconcerting, like when I stayed up until six in the morning in Beijing getting drunk on Tsingtao while watching Chinese people play Mahjong (Mah Jongg) 麻將.
