Anniversary of Tiananmen Square massacre

Yesterday I met only one Chinese person willing to concede knowledge of the protests at Tienanmen Square in 1989, and that quickly transitioned to caution: Please we must not discuss this; this is sensitive in China and we must pick new topic.

Below are photos from directly north of Tienanmen Square, through Tienanmen Gate but before Meridian Gate and the entrance to the Forbidden City. These military helmets, which weren't there only a day or two earlier, must be in remembrance of the police officers who died in 1989.

There was of course no recognition of the civilians who died, because if you pretend something never happened for long enough, maybe it never happened, yeah?
