The only reason I stopped in Changsha (Hunan Province) is because I wasn't able to travel all the way to Wudangshan in one day, so it was either Changsha or Wuhan.
I chose Changsha because I was told it was smaller, more intimate (i.e. only 3,000,000 people).
The city itself didn't strike me as interesting, but I was surprised to learn that it was where Mao Zedong studied in his youth, before he grew fat and developed that mole on his chin.
