Ghost money (also known as joss paper) can be seen daily throughout Taipei. It is symbolic paper that is burned on sidewalks outside of temples or businesses. Business owners burn it regularly, ostensibly for good luck, whereas others burn the ghost money on special holidays to honor deities, or on anniversaries in honor of dead relatives, or other reasons.
