Changsha tofu and Mao Zedong

Mao Zedong studied in Changsha, Hunan Province, where he converted to communism before successfully leading the Communist Party of China (CPC) against domestic rivals and the Japanese.

I suppose that's how he became the first president of China.

Here is a statue of Chairman Mao in Changsha. You might expect a statue like this, and its quote on the baseplate, to express some deep sentiments about China or the Communist Party.

A local girl from Changsha translated the quote for me, and paraphrasing, it says:

The tofu in Changsha smells quite bad, but it actually tastes quite good.
