Russian faces (a.k.a. learning how to scowl, the Russian way)

Repeatedly while in Russia I was told by Russians that Russians can spot other Russians, not only home but also abroad, from body language and nothing else. Just the way Russians walk is different, they said. Certainly the way they scowl is unique. Of all the Russian scowls I experienced, these three women in the eastern Siberian city of Ulan-Ude were my favorite.

This photo is also a good reminder that not all Russians are white, that there are many Asiatic Russians. Actually most of Russia is considered Asia, not Europe, but that is easy to forget since anything west of the Ural Mountains (e.g. Moscow, Saint Petersburg) is considered Europe.
