Hand-cranked ferry across Macal River in Belize

Macao River in northern Belize, near Xunantunich and the Guatemalan border. After seeing the ruins, I walked along the river to the border, hitchhiking the last few hundred meters.

The only way to cross the river and stay dry is on this hand-cranked ferry that takes cars back and forth across the river to Xunantunich. The ride takes about 30 seconds and feels more like a bridge than a ferry.
