You don't need nice kitchens for nice meals

By visiting local markets and also buying food from people cooking in their homes, we fed three people for about three dollars total (seven or eight quetzal each): beans, local cheese, guacamole made fresh from scratch, tortillas made by hand, and eggplant curry with freshly sliced pineapple and peppers. All fresh, nothing processed, everything purchased and prepared on the spot.

Our outdoor kitchen in San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.

Tortillas in Guatemala and Honduras are meant to be edible utensils, not tacos, but whatever.
